Ethical

A Certified B Corporation, continuously since 2018.

We were one of the earliest commercial and industrial solar EPCs in Australia to certify, and we have held the certification without a break ever since.

What a B Corporation is

Measured, verified, and accountable. Not asserted.

B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, an independent global non-profit, to for-profit companies that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It is not a self-declared label or a marketing badge. A company earns it by being measured, independently, on how it treats its workers, its community, the environment, and its customers, and on how it governs itself.

What sets the certification apart is that it is legally binding as well as performance based. To certify, a company amends its own governing documents to commit, in law, to considering the impact of its decisions on all of its stakeholders, not only its shareholders. The standard is third-party audited, publicly transparent, and renewed on a recurring cycle, so it has to be earned again rather than held indefinitely.

The areas it measures

Certification assesses a company across five areas of impact.

Governance

Mission, ethics, accountability, and transparency, including the legal commitment to consider every stakeholder in how the company is run.

Workers

Pay, benefits, training, wellbeing, and the quality and security of the employment the company provides.

Community

Diversity and inclusion, economic contribution, supplier relationships, and engagement with the places the company operates in.

Environment

The direct footprint of facilities, inputs, and operations, and the environmental impact of what the company actually delivers.

Customers

The value the company creates for the people and organisations it serves, and how responsibly it delivers it.

How it is earned, and re-earned

The credibility of the certification rests on how it is awarded.

Independently verified

Performance is assessed and audited by B Lab as an independent third party, following internationally recognised audit norms. It is not self-reported.

A legal commitment

Certified companies embed stakeholder governance into their own constitution, making the duty to consider all stakeholders binding, not voluntary.

Publicly transparent

A certified company’s impact is published, so the claim can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Continually raised

Certification is renewed against an evolving standard. In 2025 B Lab introduced its largest overhaul to date, replacing the old single-score model with mandatory requirements across every impact topic, so strength in one area can no longer mask weakness in another.

Our certification

Held continuously since 2018.

nu-tility has been continuously certified as a B Corporation since 2018. We were one of the earliest commercial and industrial solar EPCs in Australia to achieve certification, and we have recertified against an evolving and increasingly demanding standard ever since.
We pursued certification because it holds us to the same discipline we bring to our clients’ assets: measured, independently verified, and accountable over the long term, rather than simply claimed.

Why it matters to our clients

A defensible signal for institutional buyers.

For asset owners, REITs, and listed corporates managing scope 2 and scope 3 reporting, a partner’s B Corp certification is a defensible, third-party signal. It tells a procurement or sustainability team that the counterparty they are relying on for a multi-decade asset is held to a higher institutional standard, independently verified rather than self-described.
As scrutiny of environmental claims increases, and greenwashing becomes a regulatory as well as a reputational risk, that independent verification matters more, not less.
